We Pride Ourselves On Quality Training
Welcome to another blog from West Midlands Nail & Beauty Academy. Wishing you all the very best wishes for a fabulous Christmas and New Year and hope you had a very festive time with your family and loved ones. It is a great time of the year to reflect upon new year new start and possibly a career change if you are stuck in a January rut, now is the time to plan ahead and make new year goals.
West Midlands Nail & Beauty Academy have had a fabulous year training lots of new students in a in a variety of courses ranging from Level 2 courses up to level 3 courses in beauty, make up, nails, complementary therapies, also on the short courses side of things too. We are very proud to announce that when our student reviews are completed the students rate their training as ‘Excellent’ we pride ourselves on quality training and aspire to keep our levels to a high standard at all times , we are constantly striving to improve our standards at all times and welcome feedback in a developmental capacity rather than seeing it as a negative, because with this in mind we can continue to grow and succeed, thus resulting in best standards for all of our students, meaning great employability aspects for students.
We are very pleased to announce that the majority of our students who completed Level 3 Nail Technology Courses have gained excellent employment working in some of Birmingham’s top salons as nail technicians and beauty therapists, many setting up their own businesses working in salons via renting their own space/ nail table or rooms. One of our previous students is now teaching at the academy, teaching on Level 3 Nail Technology Course, she was trained by myself but owned her own salon for many years and still works in her friends salon and on self employed basis from home, to say that her skills are excellent to say the least I then decided after teaching her that I had to have her invaluable skills in my academy and Michelle is a great addition to our teaching staff with a wealth of experience with a great warm personality and connects with all of our students, which is very important to me. This makes us feel very proud that we have given our students the tools to be able to set up their own businesses and prepare them for the transition from student to employee/ business owner, I for one share with my students my business acumen over an 8 year period of trials and tribulations of running my own salon ,I give the students real life examples of health & safety, environmental issue/procedures, Human resources issues, employment law etc because these are areas I had to deal with all on my own without any help, I guide them to the relevant organisations and prepare them as if they were in business and use examples on how to deal with these important issues which in turn is very valuable information, our courses that we offer are a complete guide to preparing and setting up a business, stock materials, salon insurance, we aim for all of our students to feel as if they have had a great learning experience with excellent enrichment activities to help their personal and social development skills thus implementing into their employment skills and objectives.
Enrichment Activity- December
Our Level 3 Nail Technology students had a lovely experience this month with one of Birmingham’s biggest hair academies Reflections Hair Academy based at the Mailbox Birmingham, whereby Lisa Hairdressing lecturer from Reflections had set up a training day whereby both groups of students could visit each other’s academies and swap practical assessments, our students carried out nail extensions, manicures, pedicures for assessments, then in the afternoon our students visited Reflections and we all got to have a lovely wash & blow dry and hair curled with the Level 1 hair students and I was very impressed with the high level of hairdressing level 1 student’s work, the results you can see on the image. What did the students gain? They gained valuable experience and they all really enjoyed the pampering giving and receiving, resulting in many students assessments and a good social skills were gained from the experience, we will be carrying out this on a regular basis.

Level 4 Micro-pigmentation Courses coming soon
I am pleased to announce that we will be running Level 4 VTCT Micro-Pigmentation Courses soon. To those of you that doesn’t know what it is it means Semi Permanent Make Up (SPMU) I have recently qualified in it myself it was a course I wanted to do for about 10 years and thoroughly enjoyed the course I must say. No other academy offers this course in Birmingham, well the Level 4 VTCT qualification that is therefore we will be the only academy offering this in Birmingham area I had to study up north for this qualification. We will be looking to gain recognition to offer this course from VTCT, they need to ensure we have the relevant facilities to offer this course so please keep a look out for when these courses start, again they will be limited to small class sizes.
Well that’s enough for now, wishing you all a wonderful New Year and I hope it sincerely brings you everything that you wish for but remember we need to plan and set goals to achieve the things we want out of a better year, so put pen to paper and make a list of all the positive changes you want and set a time frame next to each one, keep re visiting it each day and put it in a prominent place so that you can keep focusing on that change and it will then start to happen, we need to see it, to believe it, to achieve it! Anything is possibly…..Happy New Year from the staff and I at West Midlands Nail & Beauty Academy…….Lyndsey Tidmarsh.
