Welcome to another blog from West Midlands Nail & Beauty Academy and welcome to the lovely month of May, when spring has sprung and the warmer weather starts to hit us. It is a great time of year when beauty salons start to get really busy, as the better weather makes people spend more on beauty treatments ie. Waxing, spray tanning, nails, lashes, brows, pedicures etc.  We start to wear summery clothes and sandals, therefore pedicures start to get very popular indeed.

Did you know that our feet get drier in the summer? Our hard skin increases due to the elements of the sunnier weather, our toes grow quicker in the summer than in winter, therefore we need to look after our feet more, by moisturising daily, trimming our toe nails more, drinking more water each day also improves the hydration in our skin too which can help reduce the dryness on our feet somewhat.

Getting a gel polish pedicure will really make your pedicure last longer, gel polish still remains to be a very popular choice on our fingers or toes, as it lasts and doesn’t chip until after 3 weeks or so if it is applied correctly of course, making it a popular choice for the savvy beauty client.  We offer a 1 day Gel Polish Course where you learn to apply gel polish correctly, as many people try to learn these skills at home themselves but potentially are putting themselves and clients in danger due to incorrect application of the gel, under curing the product, not using the correct lamp for the gel they are using, all of these important factors we teach you on our 1 Day Gel Polish Course. You will gain an accredited certificate which means that you can get insured. Please note we only give certificates out if you pass a competent assessment, otherwise we advise you to come back free of charge until you gain competency.

To book on this course you will need to be qualified in manicures, please do not worry if you aren’t we offer this course too. Please see the links below for both courses.

Open Day

Please note we have an Open Day/ Enrollment Day on Saturday 1StJune from 2.30- 6.00pm, whereby you can meet current students and tutors and discuss any courses such as NVQ courses or short accredited courses or to discuss your career options in the amazing world of the beauty industry and what it has to offer, as a veteran myself in the beauty industry I can honestly say that I am still as passionate about this industry as I was 21 years years ago and how much it has changed in this time becoming even more popular than it was back then.

There are some amazing opportunities out there for beauty therapists and the progression route, many go on to teaching, which we strongly recommend this if you have amazing beauty skills, why not share them to the world. One of our beauty students who qualified with us Nicola has recently enrolled on a teacher training course, no doubt we saw potential in Nicola to teach at our academy and encouraged her to do her teacher training and for us to mentor her in becoming a tutor at the academy in the future. She has recently set up her own mobile beauty business www.nicolajaynebeautytherapy.co.uk and we wish her every success in this based in Marston Green area of Birmingham.

We continue to turn out successful students each year and we follow up their progress all of the time. So remember to put the 1stJune in your diary. Please email wmnailandbeauty@yahoo.comor info@westmidlandsnailandbeautyacademy.co.ukif you will be attending, so that we can give you full details of the Open Day and where to arrive etc.

Bye for now and enjoy this lovely spring weather!
